Hello Year Two!

Well  - this isn't quite the welcome back after the Christmas break that we expected but we hope that you are all well and safe at home following the announcement that schools were to close last night.

We hope that you all enjoyed Christmas? We want to say a big thank you for all of your very generous Christmas gifts and cards - you are all very kind.

We have put learning activities for this week below and hope to have Google Classrooms up and running for learning next week. Please do get in touch if you have any questions, or send your learning via the school office: and we will get back to you as soon as we possibly can.

We will be working in school and at home and will be contacting families by phone over the next couple of weeks - this may appear as a withheld number on the call display.

Take care and we hope to see you soon,

Please continue to practise these with your children at home - there are also links to lots of games which will help prepare children.

This week we have celebrated Black History Month by completing a session about the Windrush arrivals in 1948. The children were extremely respectful and entered into thoughtful and sensible discussion about the way in which people should be treated, regardless of the colour of their skin. We found out about St Paul's Carnival in Bristol in order to celebrate the diverse culture in our local area. Please see photos from the day in the 'Our Learning' section above.

Finally, we hope that you have a lovely break during half term..

If your child reads other material such as books at home or books online, especially over the weekend when school books are returned to school, please also record this in the diaries. We are reading with the children in school every week - currently this is not recorded in reading diaries as we keep our own records.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Pearce, Mrs Quinn and Miss Franklin

NEW - Reading at home

Previously home school reading diaries were left in the children's book bags. If you have one at home please can you bring it into school next week. If your child does not have one already, we will provide a new one.

To ensure children are reading at home over the weekend we have created an account for both Class 5 and 6 to access the oxford owl books online. Each class has their own username and password so please ensure you use the correct one. The books online are the same reading levels as those in school. There is a step by step guide to access the website in the Year Two Information folder. From the Year Two team

Friday 11th September 2020

Wow, we are already 2 weeks into Year Two! Well done to all of the children for settling in and learning our new routines so quickly.

We enjoyed our Big Bang day this week which launched our whole school topic 'Come on and Celebrate'. We found out about the local festivals and fiestas in our part of the country - we learnt about Bristol Balloon Fiesta, Glastonbury Festival, Bristol Harbour Festival and Longleat Festival of Light. It was a great chance for children to share their experiences of celebrations and get excited about our new topic.

Please can we remind parents and carers that reading books need to be returned in named plastic wallets every THURSDAY in order for us to quarantine and exchange them. New books will be sent home each MONDAY.

PE will continue every WEDNESDAY this term - please send children to school in warm kits.

Please see this week's homework challenge below, do continue to forward any photos of children's home learning to for our attention.

Many thanks,

Mrs Pearce, Mrs Quinn and Miss Franklin

Friday 4th September 2020

Welcome back! The children have had a fantastic few days starting Year Two and we are incredibly proud of how sensible and mature they have been. It's been wonderful to begin to get to know them and we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.

Children need to wear their PE kits to school on their PE day. They should wear a plain red or white t-shirt, plain jogging bottoms or shorts and a plain jumper as well as trainers. PE is outdoors this term.

Class 5 & Class 6 both have PE on a WEDNESDAY.

Forest Schools

Year Two have a block of Forest Schools sessions on the dates below. Children will need to wear their school uniform but need to bring waterproof trousers, waterproof coat and wellies so that these can be worn over their uniforms.

Class 5 - Tuesdays 6th, 13th and 20th October and 3rd November.

Class 6 - Thursdays - 8th, 15th, 22nd October and 5th November.

A reading book will be sent home every Monday. This book should be read 3 times during the week.

1st time - to decode / sound out each word.

2nd time - read the story and discuss / answer questions.

3rd time - read the story more fluently.

Books should then be sent back into school on a Thursday so that they can be quarantined for 72 hours.  Please return the book in the named plastic wallet provided so that we can prepare the next text. If you feel that your child is not on the correct book band after the extended school closure, please email us to let us know. We are hoping to read with all children in the coming days.

Each Friday we will upload homework to the school website. Due to current restrictions we will not be sending homework books or sheets between home and school, we will set an activity that can be completed at home and ask that a photo be sent through to the school website for our attention should you wish to do so.

Please see below, the homework for Friday 4th September.

Have a great weekend, we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
