Year 4

Happy New Year, Year 4 and welcome back to Term 3!

We hope you all had a lovely holiday with your family and friends and are excited to get back to school. We would also like to say a huge thank you for your incredibly kind Christmas gifts and cards.

This term we will be exploring our new topic of 'Medieval Madness' where we will be looking at the lives and history of Anglo Saxons. If you have any personal experiences or knowledge to do with the Anglo Saxons, we would love to hear from you!

Our outdoor PE sessions this term will be on Monday afternoons for both Class 9 and 10. Please continue to wear PE kit into school on Mondays. It may be cold outside so please ensure you wear warm clothes!

Forest schools this term are the following dates:

Class 9: Tuesday 11th (Group A Surnames from A- L), 18th (Group B Surnames from M-W), 25th (Group A Surnames from A-L) January. 1st (Group B Surnames from M-W), 8th (Group A Surnames from A- L) and 15th February (Group B Surnames from M-W)

Class 10: Thursday 6th (Group A), 13th (Group B), 20th (Group A) and 27th January (Group B). 3rd (Group A) and 10th February (Group B).

Homework will continue to be handed out on Fridays, to be returned by the following Thursday. As part of the children's homework, we ask that they practise their times tables and spellings. To aid this, the children have been given reminders of their login details for both Times Table Rock Stars and Spelling Shed. Please encourage your child to engage in these websites as they are fantastic resources for revising the particular times table and spelling list that we are learning that week.

We can't wait to see all of you on Wednesday 5th January!

Miss Rankin and Miss Murphy

Hello and Welcome to Year 4's class page!
We have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming the children into Year 4 this week and are looking forward to a new year of lots of exciting learning opportunities. Below are some important dates and information to help the return to school go smoothly:

Please note, we have a new, weekly PE day. PE for both Class 9 and 10 will now take place on Monday afternoons. Please send  children to school on Monday in PE kit appropriate for the weather as we will be outside.

We will be having swimming lessons at Longwell Green swimming pool in the new year. Dates to be confirmed.

Homework is handed out every Friday and should be completed by the following Thursday.

Spelling lists for the week can be found on the weekly homework sheet. The children will be tested on these every Friday.

Children are encouraged to read four times a week at home. Please can any reading be recorded in the children's red reading records and come into school on Fridays to be checked. Children who read four or more times will receive a raffle ticket with a chance to win a prize at the end of the term. If your child's class has the highest number of readers in the school for the week, they will also receive the reading trophy which is presented during assembly!
