The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore OBE MP Member of Parliament for Kingswood visited St Anne’s as part of the children’s enquiry ‘How do we all live together’. The Year 6 pupils had been learning about the history and development of democracy starting with the ancient Greeks and finishing with the idea of modern government and parliament. The children enjoyed listening to what being an MP entails and posed some of their own questions about the House of Lords, The House of Commons and the role of the government in leading a democratic country.
Welcome to Term 4.
This Term Class 13 will have outdoor tennis on Wednesday afternoons and indoor P.E. on Friday afternoons.
Class 14 will have outdoor tennis on Monday afternoons and indoor P.E. on Friday afternoons.
Please ensure that your child has the correct P.E. clothing for both indoor and outdoor sessions (no football kits, bright clothing, branded sports wear) and that long hair is tied back and any earrings removed or taped.
Thank you
Monday is Dress to Express day in Year 6.
Remember, you are welcome to wear something which expresses an aspect of your life or personality e.g. a hobby, an extra-curricular activity, dressing up as a favourite character, a favourite colour or item of clothing. There are many options! We are looking forward to taking part in the week and sharing the outcomes with you.
On Friday the children will be taking part in the NSPCC Number Day where they will be given the opportunity to apply their maths skills to everyday scenarios, whilst raising money for the NSPCC – a fantastic cause. The children will be able to come to school dressed as a digit for a small donation (£1) which will go to the charity. This could be an item of clothing with a number on it such as a favourite sports top or cap, or even your favourite onesie. Or why not get more creative and design a unique t-shirt, hat or even become a human-sized calculator or dice! During the day, the children will take part in a range of fun maths activities. The money we raise could help the NSPCC run its ‘Speak Out, Stay Safe’ programme to help children understand what abuse is and what to do if they're scared or worried
Happy New Year and welcome back to Term 3. We hope that you are all looking forward to an exciting new enquiry topic 'Linnaeus and Darwin - what connects them?' For this fascinating enquiry, we will be working as both scientists and historians. Starting with classification, then moving on to evolution and inheritance, we will use our historical skills to explain the importance of scientific discovery and learn about the work of Linnaeus and Darwin.
Forest Schools
We are lucky to have early sessions with Forest Schools this term so please come dressed in clothes appropriate for both the forest activities and the weather (spare/waterproof trousers, jumper, coat and wellies plus a change of footwear for indoors) ). Arms and legs need to be covered at all times.
Class 14 5th January in the morning.
Class 13 10th January in the morning.
P.E. and Games.
Outdoor games will be on Thursday afternoons whatever the weather so please come dressed in suitable clothing for the field or playground in the wet and cold. Please no football kits, bright clothing, branded sports wear. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed or taped. We will be working with the Up and Under coaches for these sessions.
Indoor P.E. will be on Tuesday afternoons.
To all children, parents and carers in Year 6, we would like to wish you a very merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year. Thank you for all the kind gifts that we received. We look forward to seeing all next year ready for another action-packed term. Take care.
We would like to say a huge well done and thank you to all the children in Year 6 this week for your Christmas performance. You were amazing. A big thank you to those children who stepped in to cover parts as sadly, some of you who worked so hard to learn your lines and arrange costumes, were not able to be there on the night. Everyone's hard work and commitment was very much appreciated.
This week will be another busy week in school with our Christmas dinner and jumper day on Tuesday, meeting with our buddies for some Christmas themed activities on Wednesday and our Christmas party on Friday afternoon where the children can come to school dressed in party clothes with sensible footwear.
Thank you also to all the children who have volunteered to do a reading at the Christmas carol service at St Anne's Church on Tuesday evening - it should be a wonderfully festive occasion !
Please remember to bring all costumes in by Thursday this week; the dress rehearsal is Friday morning.
Non-school uniform with a tombola donation on Thursday.
The school fayre is on Friday so please come to support the school - there will be many goodies on sale!
Today Mrs Cook (our Chair of Governors) visited us along with Mr Quinn to talk about the role of Governors in school and how a school is run. We had a lot of questions and it was a fascinating talk linked to the idea of the people needed around a football team.
This week is anti-bullying week at St Anne's so please could you all wear odd socks to school on Monday.
The focus for this year is Reach Out with the rationale being:
Whether it’s in school, at home, in the community or online, let’s reach out and show each other the support we need. Reach out to someone you trust if you need to talk. Reach out to someone you know is being bullied. Reach out and consider a new approach.
Welcome Back Year 6! We hope you had a lovely half term break :)
We will have many exciting events to look forward to this term including Book Week (Week 2), Anti-Bullying Week (Week 3), Christmas Productions and Disco, as well as many others.
