Welcome to Year 5!

We have a very exciting term coming up and the countdown to Charterhouse also begins! Please check the pages below to remind the children about the upcoming event. If you have any questions regarding Charterhouse or Year 5 in general, please do not hesitate to send us an email or catch us in person. 

Important dates for Term 1

Homework

Homework will be sent out on a Friday and it is due the following Thursday. Children will be given a paper copy and it will also be added to the homework page below. We will hold a homework club on a Wednesday. Homework club is provided for the children who cannot complete at home or those who are struggling with a task. Although we encourage independence while completing homework, lunchtime club will give the children the opportunity to ask questions if needed. Please encourage children to complete their homework to a high standard. 

Spellings
Children will be taught a spelling rule during the week and it will be their task to learn that rule for their homework. On Fridays we will then test the children on that spelling rule. Please continue to use spelling shed - if you needed an updated login, please let us know. Spelling books will not come home.

Times Tables

Please can all children continue to practise their times table on Times Table Rock Stars. New classes will be set up and we will set groups over the next week. We have found that by having a secure understanding of multiplication and division facts helps the children in all aspects of maths lessons. Starting from next week their will be a challenge between Olive and Damson class. Who will be the winners? 

Reading
We will be encouraging children to read four times a week at home. Please ensure you record this in your child's reading record. We will check the reading records every Friday to see which children have read four times, these children will then receive a raffle ticket with a chance to win a prize at the end of the term. The class which have the highest number of children reading four times will receive a trophy during our assembly.

Communication

Parents and carers - please come and see us, we will be in the playground every morning and afternoon and value the importance of effective home school communication. If you have any queries or questions come and ask us or send us an email!

Essential Information for Term 1

PE Days 

Please can you ensure that your child comes to school in the correct PE kit (no football kits, bright clothing, branded sports wear) with long hair tied back and earrings removed. Please can tape be provided if your child cannot remove their own earrings. 

Olive and Damson - Monday morning 

Swimming

Please can you ensure that your child comes to school with a swimming costume, a towel and goggles. Earrings need to be fully removed. 

Olive and Damson - Tuesday afternoon

Forest School 

Year 5 have forest school during Term 1 and 2. Please ensure your child arrives at school with the correct kit. Appropriate old clothing is necessary along with a change of footwear. Long trousers and long sleeves should be worn even in hot weather due to brambles, stinging nettles and tics! Welly boots are ideal but old trainers are fine - children must have a change of footwear for school.
