Week beginning 8.12.25
This week the children have been consolidating some of the phase 2 digraphs (ch, sh, th, ng, nk) and the tricky words taught. Please use the flashcards at home to help the children practise reading the tricky words by sight. In maths, the children have been developing their counting skills using 1:1 correspondence. They have been learning to stop at the stopping number. For example, when shown the number 5, they count objects carefully and stop when they reach 5. The children really enjoyed making bread rolls as part of their UW learning 'where does food come from?'. The children raised £28 to put towards a special treat for their morning snack next week. Thank you for your kind donations and for supporting the children with their learning of trade. On Friday we had a wonderful visit to Little Croft Care Home where the children sang their 'Twinkly Nativity' songs and some Christmas songs bringing festive joy to the residents. Next week is busy with Christmas festivities including a reindeer dash, Christmas dinner and class parties. We hope you have a lovely weekend. ![]()
Week beginning 1.12.25
This week the children have been learning to read and spell words ending in 's'. They have been taught three new tricky words we, me and be. In maths, the children have continued exploring parts and wholes. They have been looking at the composition of 3, 4 and 5. Learning that numbers are made up of other numbers. For example 5 is made of 4 and 1, and 3 and 2. They have used squares to make different arrangements of 3, 4 and 5. The children have been Scientists when talking about the importance of good personal hygiene and learning about dental care. They have also been learning about the importance of exercise and enjoyed completing an obstacle course outside. They have also been Geographers learning about the process of bread. They will be making bread rolls next week to then sell to you as part of their learning about trade. The money raised will be used to buy Hazel and Plum classes a special snack for their morning snack towards the end of term. We are incredibly proud of the children for performing 'The Twinkly Nativity' to you all. This week the children have been introduced to four new sounds sh, th, ng and nk and four new tricky words she, push, he, of. In maths, the children have continued exploring parts and wholes. They have played with different games and toys that have different parts and put them together to make the whole. This will help them see that numbers are made up of smaller numbers when exploring the composition of numbers. The children have been Scientists when talking about the importance of a balanced diet and have been Geographers when exploring different types of farms including arable farms. The children have been busy practising for their Christmas Performance 'The Twinkly Nativity' and did their dress rehearsal to the school on Friday. They have played with different games and toys that have different parts and put them together to make the whole. The children have been Scientists when talking about the importance of sleep and have been Geographers when exploring what animals are found on a farm and what they provide us. The children have been busy practising for their Christmas Performance 'The Twinkly Nativity'. This week the children have been introduced to four new sounds v, w, x and y and four new tricky words and, has, his, her. In maths, the children have been comparing number and using the language of more than, fewer than and equal to. The children have been Scientists when exploring what animals including humans need and have been Geographers when exploring different types of farms. On Tuesday the children attended a remembrance service led by Reverend Goodwin. Thank you for supporting 'Odd Socks Day' during Kindness week and thank you for supporting 'Children in Need' on Friday. It was lovely to welcome the children back after the half term break. This week the children have been introduced to four new sounds ff, ll, ss and j. In maths, the children have been identifying, naming and describing 2D shapes, circles and triangles. They have also been exploring the composition of five. Ask them to sing the five little peas song! The children have been Scientists when exploring different animals and have been Geographers when exploring what a farm is. On Friday the school launched Numbots and Timestable Rockstars. Numbots information and details have been sent home. Thank you for your support with the rock n robot dress up day, the children looked amazing! We hope your child has fun exploring the different games.

Week beginning 22.10.25
Wow, the children have completed their first term at school! It has been a busy 8 weeks and the children have settled so well, becoming familiar with the routines of school and having lots of fun playing and learning both inside and outside. This week we have revisited the sounds and tricky words taught. Please continue to practise them at home and practise blending CVC words. You can find some CVC words and activities under our teaching and learning, phonics tab. The children have engaged well with their UW enquiry - exploring everyday materials and their other enquiry how has travel and transport changed over time. They had fun looking at lots of different old and modern transport. On Thursday we held our harvest service at St Anne's Church and the children enjoyed walking with their year 6 buddies. The other half of Plum Class had their forest school session. Even though it was quite wet this week, they still had fun climbing trees, building dens and playing in the mud kitchen. This week the children have been introduced to four new sounds h, b, f and l. Supporting materials have been sent home in reading folders. Please help the children to consolidate the phonemes taught so far. In maths, the children have been copying and continuing repeating patterns. They have also been comparing number and using the language of more than and fewer than to compare sets of objects. The children have been Historians when revisiting their big question 'how has travel and transport changed?' and have enjoyed comparing old and modern transport. On Thursday, Plum Class had a great time at forest school with their Year 6 buddies, climbing trees and building dens and there was lots of lovely mud face paint! It was lovely to see so many of you at parents evening and sharing how your child has settled in school. School is closed on Monday 20th October 2025 as it is an inset day. They have also been subitising up to 4 and have been exploring the composition of 3 and 4. The children have been Historians when exploring the history of hot air balloons and thoroughly enjoyed making their own hot balloons, They are very excited to bring them home. On Thursday, Hazel Class had a great time at forest school with their Year 6 buddies, climbing trees and building dens. This week the children have been introduced to four new sounds g, o, c and k. Supporting materials have been sent home in reading folders. Please help the children to consolidate the phonemes taught so far (s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d). In maths, the children have been sorting objects by a type. They have also been exploring the composition of 2, 3 and 4, understanding that 2 is made of one and another one etc. The children have been Scientists when exploring everyday materials. They have been exploring the flexibility of different objects and materials. They have been Historians when comparing old and modern transport and this weeks focus has been water transport - boats and ships. In PE, the children explored different ways of moving and practised their balancing skills with a beanbag. Thank you for all your support with the children's induction to school and being brave seeing them into school.
The children have done so well adapting to the new routines of school and having lunch. They have enjoyed seeing their buddies at lunch time, playing in the sensory garden. The children have been getting to know each other and have enjoyed playing alongside each other with the indoor and outdoor provision. The children have been learning new vocabulary like phoneme and grapheme. They have learned s, a, t, p and have been engaging with mark making activities. In maths they have been learning about subitising and have also been matching objects and pictures. Thank you to those who could come along to our welcome to the year meeting on Tuesday. The information shared can be found under the 'letters and information' tab. We also add a 'this week' document under the 'teaching and learning' tab so you can see some of the things the children are doing. On Tuesday 7th October 2025 at 2.30pm we will be holding an EYFS phonics workshop, we hope many of you will be able to attend. We hope you have a lovely weekend. ![]()

Please send children into school wearing their forest school clothes. It is a Thursday (PE day) but they do not need to bring in their PE kit, they can stay in their forest school clothes. Children will need to wear long sleeves and bottoms to be able to climb trees etc. Children can wear the wellies they have in school. Hazel and Plum Classes will have PE on a Thursday during term one. Please send children into school wearing their PE kit. We kindly ask that footwear does not have laces. Long hair should be tied back. Earrings should either be removed or taped up, thank you.
